More than 40 percent

highly stressful role.

A Heavy Burden on Caregiving Families

According to the “Caregivers of Veterans: Serving on the Homefront” survey:

1

30 percent of caregiving families have provided support
for the veteran in their family for at least 10 years

2

68 percent of families providing care found their
current situation to be highly stressful

3

43 percent reported spending 40 hours or more
per week caring for their loved one

4

Nearly 50 percent of caregivers are forced to leave
their jobs to focus on the demands at home

In this demanding and highly stressful situation, the caregiving families of veterans urgently need our support.

“Caregivers step up every day to serve veterans they love who
sacrificed to defend our Nation. To them, caregiving is a labor of love
and devotion, but that alone does not ease the burden and personal
stress placed on those who provide daily care for the disabled.”
—Secretary of Veterans Affairs Gen. Eric K. Shinseki
