Transcendental Meditation is an excellent tool for gaining deep rest
and strengthening
the body’s resilience
to stress, fatigue,
and disease.

Chronic activation of the fight-or-flight response results in wear and tear both physically and mentally. Several studies show that the TM technique decreases chronic stress, including greater physiological relaxation during meditation, reduced stress levels outside meditation, and a quicker response to stress.

American Psychologist 42: 879–881, 1987

A meta-analysis of 31 studies examined the effects of Transcendental Meditation and eyes-closed rest on physiological relaxation levels. The meta-analysis found that the TM technique provides twice the relaxation of simple eyes-closed rest—as measured by respiration rate, skin resistance, and plasma lactate levels. Furthermore, the same meta-analysis noted that practitioners of the Transcendental Meditation technique exhibited lower baseline levels of excitation than controls—indicating that regular practice of the technique results in decreasing levels of stress in activity.
